The theatrical version had plenty of shortcomings but the extended DVD release put the film back together.
It may not be everyone, but I have weakness for this epic. The battle scenes are excellent, the acting nothing great but enough to carry the story.
The landscapes and visual scope are enormous. Post Lord of the Rings all the studios were trying the epic formula and throwing CGI people on the screen. Troy may not have gotten a lot of love at the time but I feel it was overlooked.
